
Chivas USA Names Juarez, Theslof, And Gonzalez To Coaching Staff

CARSON, Calif. (Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010) - Chivas USA announced today the hiring of Carlos Juarez, Nick Theslof, and Daniel Gonzalez to join Head Coach MartÃn Vásquez on the team's technical staff. Juarez joins Carlos Llamosa as an Assistant Coach for the club, while Nick Theslof will take on the new role of Technical Coach. Daniel Gonzalez will take over as the club's Goalkeeper Coach.
"These three coaches are talented, experienced, and perfectly suited to help this club move forward," said Chivas USA Head Coach MartÃn Vásquez. "Adding Carlos, Nick and Daniel, and having Carlos Llamosa already here, will help all our players, from youth teamers to experienced professionals, learn and develop."
Assistant Coach Carlos Juarez has a wealth of experience at all levels of soccer, having served as a staff coach for the U.S. Soccer Federation since 1989 and as a coach for the U.S. U-17, U-20, and U-23 teams at various times. Most recently, Juarez was with the Claremont Stars Soccer Club as the organization's technical director, and has formerly served as the head coach of the San Diego Spirit of the WUSA from 2000-2002 and both the men's and women's teams at Cal Poly Pomona from 1997-2000. Juarez has over 25 years of experience at the youth, collegiate, and professional levels, and the Los Angeles native holds a U.S. Soccer Federation 'A' license.
Carlos Llamosa returns for his second season as an Assistant Coach for Chivas USA. The Colombian-born Llamosa, who played in MLS from 1997-2007, including his final two seasons with Chivas USA, made 29 appearances with the United States National Team after gaining U.S. citizenship in 1998. Llamosa started in MLS with D.C. United, and also played for Miami, New England, and Chivas USA, and won two MLS Cups (1997, 1999) and was a three-time All-Star (1999, 2001, 2002) The defender made appearances in the 2002 World Cup victories over Portugal and Mexico, and holds a U.S. Soccer Federation "A" License.
Technical Coach Nick Theslof joins Chivas USA after having served with Vásquez on J-rgen Klinsmann's staff at FC Bayern Munich as an Assistant Coach and International Scout. In his role as Technical Coach, Theslof will work with players on various aspects of their performance, and will also help the club in both player and club scouting. Theslof, who was also a scout for the German National Team in the 2006 World Cup, served as the Head Coach and General Manager for the Orange County Blue Star of the Premier Development League from 2002-2007. A professional player for the Columbus Crew and Orange County Wave of the A-League, Theslof was an NCAA National Champion in 1997 at UCLA, and he also holds a U.S. Soccer Federation "A" License.
Goalkeeper Coach Daniel Gonzalez, a former professional player in the United States and Argentina, brings experience coaching at many levels, including service as the goalkeeper coach for the Colorado Rapids from 2000-2003. As a player, Gonzalez had a career that spanned more than 16 years, starting with Rosario Central of the Argentine First Division and the Argentina Under-20 National Team, and continuing with several teams in the United States. Gonzalez' coaching career includes a time as Director of Coaching for number of youth clubs, as well as his time with the Colorado Rapids, and a U.S. Soccer Federation "A" License.
Preseason camp opens for Chivas USA next Tuesday, January 26, at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. A full preseason roster and schedule of events will be available in the coming days.
