U.S. Nat'l U17 Team Drops 8-2 Decision At Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Cole Bardreau (Fairport, N.Y.) scored a goal and added an assist as the U.S. National Under-17 Team dropped an 8-2 decision to the Sioux Falls Stampede here tonight at Sioux Falls Arena.

After Jacob Johnstone put the Stampede ahead 1-0 5:46 into the first stanza, Bardreau knotted the score at 11:10. Zac Larraza (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Adam Reid (Chino Hills, Calif.) picked up assists on the play. Netminder John Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) turned aside 14 shots in the period.

Sioux Falls rode a five-goal barrage to distance itself from Team USA in the second frame starting with Brent Darnell's unassisted tally at 3:35. Ryan Misiak converted on a Matt Lindblad feed from the left side at 7:45 to make it 3-1. Anthony Day snuck a shot under Gibson's left arm from the middle slot at 10:41 to give the Stampede a three-goal lead. Just 15 seconds later, Matt Zarbo slipped the puck through Gibson's legs to make it 5-1. Dominic Zombo added a power-play marker at 16:39 to cap the period's scoring.

Matt Farris ripped a shot inside the left post 4:05 into the final period to make it 7-1. Andy Ryan (Brighton, Mich.) gave Team USA its second goal when his right-point wrister beat netminder Lino Chimienti at 8:02. Sam Coatta tallied with just 1:05 remaining in regulation to account for the 8-2 final.

Gibson made 41 saves on the night.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team will close out its five-game road swing Friday when it meets the Fargo Force at the UP Center at 7:35 p.m. CST.
