Attakora Gets National Team Call-Up

January 8, 2010 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Toronto FC News Release

Toronto FC announced Friday that defender Nana Attakora has been called up for the week long U-23 Olympic team camp in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This will be the first official camp under national coach Tony Fonseca. Attakora is one of 21 players selected that will train January 11-18 at the Holiday Inn Sunrise in preparation for the 2012 Men's Olympic Football Tournament in London, England.

Attakora, a two time winner of the U-20 Player of the Year Award (2008, 2009) made his last national team appearance on March 9, 2009 in a U-20 match against Mexico. The captain is one of ten players that also participated in last year's CONCACAF Men's U-20 Championship in Trinidad & Tobago.

This is Canada's first men's U-23 camp since the 2008 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualification Tournament in the U.S. At that last event, Canada came within one win of qualifying for the Beijing Olympics. This camp comes one week before the full national team trains in Fort Lauderdale with head coach Stephen Hart. Canada will face Jamaica in their first international friendly of 2010 on January 31.
