Falcons Players To Deliver Holiday Gifts To Families At Springfield YMCA

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that Falcons players will be delivering holiday gifts to pre-selected families at the Greater Springfield YMCA on Wednesday, December 16 starting at 2:30 pm. Also that same afternoon, the Falcons will be donating teddy bears to the American Red Cross Pioneer Valley Chapter.
The Falcons players will be leaving the MassMutual Center on a Peter Pan Bus starting at 2:30 pm to make the deliveries. Media members interested in attending this special event are invited to also ride on the bus to both stops at the YMCA and American Red Cross.
This special holiday event is part of the YMCA's "Devoted Families - Enriching Lives Teen Parent Program," which began in 2006. There are currently 10 teen parents, with 15 childrenenrolled in the teen parent program. Theprogram accepts both male and female high school drop-out teens that are pregnant or parenting. The goal of the program is to assist teens in achieving their GEDwhile at the same time, providingon-site child care services for their children. Teens also must attend life skills workshopsand home visits where they are guided in child development and parenting classes, budgeting, job training, etc. Teen parents are encouraged to consider college once they have completed their GED, or to attend a career institute where they can acquire a skill that will provide a livable wage. They ultimate goal of the program is to break the cycle of poverty.
