Max Cook scored two goals while Justin Agosta and Kevin Goumas each registered a pair of assists as the Indiana Ice skated past the Omaha Lancers 4-2 Saturday afternoon at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. With the loss, the Lancers fall to 18-4 on the season but remain atop both the West Division and USHL standings with 36 points.
Omaha grabbed the game's opening marker just 5:07 into the contest when Camden Wojtala threw a side-angle shot from the left wing which grazed off an Ice skater in front and into the back of the Indiana net. Mathieu Brisson and Colin Markison earned the two assists on the goal, which was netted with Omaha's first shot of the game. Indiana answered right back, however, as five and a half minutes later Cook collected a loose puck at the outside of the Omaha cage in tapping in his 6th goal of the season. Justin Agosta and Kevin Goumas grabbed assists on the even strength marker tallied 10:43 into the period. The Lancers bounced right back though and just three and a half minutes later grabbed a 2-1 lead when Markison chipped a loose puck at the right side of the crease in for his 2nd goal of the season. Wojtala and Tom Craig assisted on the 5-on-5 marker. Indiana found a way to get the game even before the break as Nic Dowd redirected a Billy Fitzgerald centering pass past Lancers goaltender Jeff Teglia evening the contest at two apiece just prior to the first intermission.
After a scoreless middle frame, Indiana netted the eventual game-winning tally just past the midway point of the 3rd period when John Parker fired a left point wrister on the power play past Teglia putting the Ice in front 3-2. Agosta and Goumas each earned their second assists of the game on the only special teams goal scored in the game. Indiana added a final insurance marker with 58 seconds left as Cook slipped his 2nd goal of the game into an empty Omaha net.
Teglia suffered the loss in goal for the Lancers despite 21 saves on 24 Indiana shots while Cab Morris earned the win for the Ice after 20 saves on 22 Omaha shots.
The Lancers are back in action next Friday evening when they head west to Kearney, Nebraska to take on the Tri-City Storm.
