STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Ports are proud to announce that the Oakland A's named Ports southpaw Pedro Figueroa their 2009 Organizational Pitcher of the Year, and named former Ports outfielder Chris Carter as the 2009 Organizational Player of the Year.

Figueroa joined the Ports on July 10 and finished the season 3-4 with a 3.56 ERA in 11 starts. He struck out 67 batters in 65.2 innings, walking just 35 and allowing 27 runs. Figueroa had a terrific start to the 2009 season in Single-A Kane County, going 10-2 with a 3.23 ERA in 16 starts for the Cougars.

Figueroa ended the 2009 campaign with a combined 13-4 record, 3.38 ERA and 145 strikeouts-good enough for second in the A's farm system in wins, third in strikeouts, tied for third in innings pitched (152.0) and fourth in ERA.

Figueroa, a 24-year-old from the Dominican Republic, was added to the A's 40-man roster on November 20.

Carter won the A's Organizational Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season. Carter followed a stellar 2008 season in Stockton with another standout performance in Double-A Midland and Triple-A Sacramento. He was named the Texas League MVP, batting.337 with 24 home runs and 101 RBI in 25 games. He was promoted to Sacramento on August 26, and in 13 games with the River Cats, he hit.259 with four home runs and 14 RBI.

Carter led all of Minor League Baseball in hits (179) and tied for first in total bases (310), while finishing second in RBI (115), tied for second in extra base hits (73) and third in runs scored (115). The 22-year old also topped the A's farm system in runs, hits, doubles (43), RBI, extra base hits, walks (85) and slugging percentage (.570).

Carter is the fourth A's prospect to win an A's Organizational Player/Pitcher of the Year Award twice, along with RHP Trevor Cahill, RHP Rich Harden and 1B Graham Koonce.

The Ports are proud of the success of both Figueroa and Carter this season, and wish them continued success in their careers.
