Binghamton Senators News Release
NORFOLK, V.A. -The B-Sens continued their road trip with a Tuesday night tilt in Norfolk versus the Admirals. Norfolk, winners of their last four games, looked to extend that streak over Binghamton. The B-Sens, however, would hear nothing of it.
Martin St. Pierre hit the net on the power play just 1:19 into the first period, giving Binghamton the early lead. Denis Hamel and Ryan Keller would each earn an assist on the play.
By the end of the first period Norfolk evened the score 1-1 as Justin Keller snuck one past Andy Chiodo at 14:43.
Just 1:14 into the second period, Paul Szczechura picked the puck up off a B-Sens give-away and would ultimately give the Ads the 2-1 lead, with an unassisted, shorthanded tally.
Three and half minutes later the B-Sens answered as Kaspars Daugavins' second goal of the year helped tie the score once more, at 2-2. Derek Smith and Josh Hennessy each earned assists.
The B-Sens regained the lead at 7:42 of the third. Zack Smith picked up a rebound, off Craig Schira's shot, burying the puck past Norfolk's net minder Dustin Tokarski to give Binghamton the 3-2 lead on the power play.
Following a penalty to Erik Karlsson at 13:10 of the third, 15 seconds into the ensuing power play Szczechura's second goal of the night tied the score for Norfolk once more 3-3.
Ryan Keller' wrist shot from the right circle at 16:18 of the third period found the net, his team leading eighth goal on the season, moved the B-Sens back in front of the Ads for the 4-3 lead.
With just 12.7 seconds remaining in play, Zack Smith's second goal of the period added insurance for Binghamton, lifting them to a 5-3 victory.
Binghamton ended the night two for four on the power play, and Chiodo stopped 25 of 28 shots faced. The teams return to the ice at the Scope tomorrow night for a 7:15 p.m. rematch.
