De Guzman Called Up For National Team Duty

November 6, 2009 - Major League Soccer (MLS) Toronto FC

Toronto FC announced Friday, that midfielder Julian De Guzman will join the Canadian National Team in advance of its upcoming matches in Europe. De Guzman has already departed for Europe to begin preparations for games on Saturday, November 14 against Macedonia in Strumica, followed by Poland on Wednesday, November 18 in Bydgoszcz.

De Guzman, who looks to earn his 41st cap, last played for his country July 18 in Philadelphia during the CONCACAF Gold Cup where he helped the team reach the quarterfinals.

Interim head coach Stephen Hart named 18 players for the squad, all from European teams except for De Guzman and Dejan Jakovic who is a member of D.C. United. These two international matches will be Canada's first since the Gold Cup, with 13 players returning from that squad that competed in the U.S.
