Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Flipping the Switch
On November 3, 2002, seven years ago today, the Waterloo Black Hawks were shutout by Topeka 4-0. The loss dropped their season record to 4-8-1, four games below.500, as they are currently. Waterloo went on to win their next twelve consecutive games. The Hawks finished the 2002-2003 season with a record number of wins and missed earning the Anderson Cup by just two points.
Flair for the Finnish
The third period has been the most productive offensively for the Black Hawks this season. Waterloo has eleven third period goals, compared with eleven from the first and second combined. Individually, Derek Arnold leads the Hawks with four third period points, all assists. Last weekend, the Indiana Ice held the Black Hawks without a third period goal.
No Extra Time
The Black Hawks are one of two USHL teams who have not played an overtime game this season. The Chicago Steel are the other club to not yet go beyond the end of regulation. A year ago, Waterloo was 8-3 in overtime games and played an extra period during four of their first eight contests.
Second Time Around
The Black Hawks open their November schedule with a rematch against the Omaha Lancers. Omaha won the first meeting 7-4 on October 23rd. During November, the Hawks will also revisit early season opponents Chicago, Cedar Rapids, and Indiana. By the end of this month, Waterloo will have seen the Lancers and Ice three times, before meeting Sioux City or divisional rivals Youngstown and Team USA even once.
