Portland Pirates News Release

The Pirates split their two games last week, posting an overtime victory against Lowell before being handed their first home loss of the season by Bridgeport. Portland, now 4- 8 on the season, is halfway through a four-game home stand, which wraps up this weekend with Hershey and Springfield providing the opposition.

The Pirates started their weekend at home against Lowell with a 3-2 overtime victory on Friday night.

Derek Whitmore and Kyle Wanvig scored for the Pirates in regulation but it was Mark Mancari's power- play goal with 24 seconds remaining in overtime that carried Portland to victory. Tyler Ennis and Nathan Gerbe each registered a pair of assists in the game while Jhonas Enroth was outstanding in a 36-save performance in front of 3,409 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

The Pirates worked hard the following night against Bridgeport, but came up on the short end of a 3-2 decision. Mark McCutcheon netted both Portland goals, his first two as a member of the Pirates and his second career two-goal game. Mancari collected an assist on the first Pirates goal to extend his point- scoring streak to six games (2-5-7).
