Gamblers Take Three Of Four Points

The Green Bay Gamblers took three out of possible four points this past weekend against the defending Clark Cup champion Indiana Ice at the Resch Center. After falling 3-2 in overtime to the Ice on Friday, the Gamblers pitched a 3-0 shutout the following evening.

Indiana defenseman Anthony Bitetto scored with 4-seconds remaining in overtime to propel the Ice to a 3-2 win over the Gamblers on Friday night at the Resch Center.

Trailing 2-1, the Gamblers got the equalizer with 49-seconds remaining in regulation when forward Anders Lee redirected a David Makowski shot past Indiana goaltender Cab Morris.

Gamblers forward Reed Seckel tallied the other Gamblers goal, a short-hander at the 14:58 mark of the second period to tie the game at 1-1.

Green Bay goaltender Ryan McKay played admirably allowing two goals on 29 shots.

Green Bay goaltender Steve Summerhays made 24 saves to backstop the Gamblers to a 3-0 win over the Indiana Ice at the Resch Center on Saturday night

The game was the Gamblers annual Caps for Cancer game.  A crowd of 4,418 threw a record 2,953 hats on the ice when rookie defenseman Max Hartner tallied the team's first goal at the 16:35 mark of the 2nd period.

Forward Sam Alfieri made it a 2-0 game midway through the 3rd period (9:51). 

Forward Chris Crane added an empty net goal at the 18:09 mark to round out the scoring.

All hats collected are donated to Heavenly Hats, which is an organization that gives hats to people with cancer.  The Gamblers also donated a portion of the proceeds from the game's ticket sales, silent auction and Pink Jersey auction to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora BayCare.

GAMBLERS ACQUIRE CHARTIER

The Green Bay Gamblers announced today that they have acquired forward Brett Chartier from the Lincoln Stars for a conditional draft pick.

Chartier, 18, spent the 2008-09 season with the Lincoln Stars. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native collected 32 points on 12 goals and 20 assists in 50 games with the Stars. Chartier did appear in one game with Lincoln this season, registering a pair of assists.

Chartier will wear #26 and is expected to be in the line-up on Friday when the Gamblers take on Sioux City.

GAMBLERS NAME TEAM CAPTAINS

The Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) have announced that second-year forward Patrick McCadden has been named team captain.

McCadden, 20, appeared in 48 games last year for the Anderson Cup champion Gamblers, registering four goals and 14 assists. Prior to his time in Green Bay, McCadden played for Jon Cooper on the 2008 Robertson Cup championship team in St. Louis.

The Gamblers also named second-year players Ryan Furne and David Makowski assistant captains.

Furne, 19, had a tremendous rookie season in the 2008-09, notching 22 goals and 24 assists in 59 games. The Oakdale, Minnesota native tacked on another eight points in seven Clark Cup playoff games.

Makowski, 20, made quite a mark on the USHL during his rookie campaign. The University of Denver recruit, won a gold medal with the United States at the 2008 World Junior "A" Challenge in Alberta, Canada, was named to the USHL All Star game, and garnered 2nd Team All-USHL honors after registering 29 points and a +23 plus/minus rating.

THREESOME TO COMPETE FOR TEAM USA

Defensemen Kevin Albers and Nick Jensen and forward Chris Crane have been named to the 2009 U.S. Junior Select Team that will compete at the World Junior "A" Challenge November 1-8 in Summerside, P.E.I. The 2009 event will feature Belarus, Canada East, Canada West, Russia, Sweden, and the United States. The tournament will run from November 1 - 8.

CAPS FOR CANCER RESULTS

On Saturday night (10/24) the Green Bay Gamblers collected a record 2,953 hats in their annual Caps for Cancer game at the Resch Center. The 4,418 in attendance threw their hats on the ice when rookie defenseman Max Hartner scored late in the 2nd period.

All hats collected were donated to Heavenly Hats, which is a charity that gives hats to people with cancer. The Gamblers and their fans also raised nearly $6,000.00 for Heavenly Hats and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora Baycare. Funds were raised through ticket sales, hat auction and the team's game worn pink jersey auction.

Now in its 5th year the Caps for Cancer Toss has collected more than 12,200 hats for Heavenly Hats.

GOALS FOR AUTISM

For every Gamblers goal scored at home this season, North Shore Bank will donate $5.00 to the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Autism Society. With the Gamblers four goal output in the home opener, the total stands at $65.00.

CELEBRITY WAITER DINNER

The Green Bay Gamblers will be waiting tables at Marco's Seafood Club on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 to raise money for the Center for Childhood Safety.

The current Gambler players will be the Celebrity Waiters at Marco's Seafood Club from 5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. All tips that the players receive from the patrons will be donated to the Center for Childhood Safety

Marco's Seafood Club is located at 1330 Marine in Green Bay. Along with their outstanding menu, Marco's will also offer a discounted menu.

One lucky diner will win a pair of Green Bay Packer tickets (2nd row End Zone) to the December 7th game versus the Baltimore Ravens.

Offensive Player of the Week -

Jaden Schwartz - Tri City Storm

Schwartz registered seven points (2g, 5a) and a plus-four rating in helping the Tri-City Storm win three straight games during the week. The 17-year-old forward is in his first USHL season and leads the Storm with 11 points (4g, 7a) in seven games.

Defensive Player of the Week -

Bryce Aneloski - Cedar Rapids RoughRiders

Aneloski registered a League season high six points (3g, 3a) in Saturday's 7-2 win vs. Team USA. The 19-year-old has already eclipsed his point total from a season ago when he scored 12 points (4g, 8a) in 38 games played.

Goaltender of the Week -

Jeff Tegila - Omaha Lancers

Teglia posted two victories with a 1.00 GAA and a .956 SV% for the Lancers during the week. He made 25 saves in the 5-1 win vs. Chicago on Thursday, and then stopped 18 shots for his first road victory of the of the season in Saturday's 4-1 win at Sioux City

Former Tri-City Storm forward Scott Parse (2002-03) made his NHL debut over the weekend with the Los Angeles Kings.  In his first game on Saturday, he recorded an assist in the 5-3 win vs. Phoenix Coyotes, and then added another assist the following evening in the 6-2 win vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets.  Parse spent the weekend playing on the same line as former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Teddy Purcell (2004-06)...Former Sioux Falls Stampede forward Corey Tropp (2005-07) leads NCAA Division I hockey in scoring with 12 points (6g, 6a) in six games for the Michigan State Spartans. Tropp posted a goal and an assist Saturday night to help lead the Spartans to a 3-2 overtime victory over top ranked Miami University.  Blake Kessel (Waterloo Black Hawks, 2006-08) from the University of New Hampshire and Jack Connolly (Sioux Falls Stampede, 2007-08) from the University of Minnesota-Duluth are tied for second in the NCAA with ten points each.   

WORKING OVERTIME

Three games for the Green Bay Gamblers have gone to overtime this season.  Anders Lee redirected Brian O'Rourke's shot into the net on Friday with just 49 seconds remaining in the third period to send the Gamblers to their third OT game of the year.  Green Bay defenseman Max Hartner scored his first goal of the season on Saturday as the Gamblers earned a 3-0 shutout in the second of back-to-back games against Indiana.  It was the second career USHL goal for Hartner who scored his first goal last season at Green Bay while a member of the Sioux City Musketeers.  Goaltender Steve Summerhays stopped all 24 shots during the shutout victory vs. Indiana.
