
Ice Bears Play Like Champions

Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
After raising the banner for their third SPHL Championship in four seasons, the Knoxville Ice Bears played like champions in their home opener and defeated the Huntsville Havoc 6 to 1. The evening began with returning players helping to hoist the new banners to the ceiling. Former Ice Bear Mike Carter was also presented with his championship ring. Carter is now playing for Huntsville Havoc.
Forward Frank Furdero scored the first goal of the season 55 seconds into the first period. Forward Donald Melnyk puts his first of the game on the board at 13:32 into the first. Knoxville's Tim Vitek scores 4:24 into the second and is quickly answered by Huntsville's Mike MacDonald at 9:29. Donald Melnyk and Frank Furdero ended up with two goals each, while Kevin Swider had one goal and three assists tonight.
The Knoxville Ice Bears will take on the Huntsville Havoc again tomorrow at 7:30 for Pride In America Night. All military and service personnel can call 525-PUCK tomorrow to reserve group tickets. All fans are also encouraged to bring new teddy bears for the Teddy Bear Toss.
