Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - After being defeated 8-1 just one week ago by the Hershey Bears, the B-Sens looked to redeem themselves against the reigning Calder Cup Champions Saturday night at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Andy Chiodo, started in goal for the B-Sens stopping 41 saves, including 27 in the second period, a Binghamton franchise record for shots allowed by an opponent.
Hershey's Alexandre Giroux opened things up with a screened slap shot that beat Chiodo low 4:23 into the first period. Josh Hennessy answered back on the power play at 7:41 with a wrist shot off a pass from Zack Smith to even the game at 1-1.
In the second period, Denis Hamel slid a pass from the side boards to Cody Bass, who snapped a shot over the left shoulder of Michal Neuvirth to give the B-Sens a 2-1 advantage.
Chiodo, the game's second star, put on a show with five straight acrobatic saves off Hershey rebounds, but one found the stick of John Carlson, who buried the puck into a wide-open net at 9:33 to tie the score at 2-2.
Binghamton limited the Bears to only three shots in the third period, while they piled on 13 of their own. But both goaltenders forced the game into overtime.
A minute into overtime, Grant McNeil's pass hopped over Hennessy's stick, found Giroux, whose wrist shot beat Chiodo to end the game, giving the B-Sens their second overtime loss of the season.
Up next, the B-Sens head to Rochester to take on the Americans, Oct. 21 at 7:05 p.m., looking for the first win on the road this season.
