Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have signed goaltender Glenn Fisher for the 2009-10 season.
Fisher has joined the Salmon Kings in Alaska for Victoria's three game-set versus the Aces this weekend.
The Edmonton, Alberta native spent the 2008-09 season split between the ECHL (Stockton Thunder and Las Vegas Wranglers) and AHL (Springfield Falcons). The majority of his season was spent with the Wranglers where he played 20 games and posted a record of 11-7-1. This was matched with a 2.28 goals against average, a 0.930 save percentage, and two shutouts. During his time in Las Vegas, Fisher won the RBK ECHL Goaltender of the Week Award (for the week of March 9-15, 2009). Fisher also played three games for the Thunder last year recording two wins and a tie, while earning a 2.64 goals against average and a 0.895 save percentage. The goaltender also participated in three games on call-up to Springfield where he accumulated one loss, a 0.930 save percentage, and a 3.00 goals against average.
"We are very excited to add Glenn to our organization," General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison said. "He has proven to be a high caliber goaltender in our league, and adds championship experience from his days at the University of Denver."
The 6-1, 190 lb. goaltender began his professional career in the 2007-08 campaign, also splitting his time between the ECHL (Stockton) and AHL (Springfield). Fisher played in 38 games with Stockton notching a 14-9-2 record while securing a 0.903 save percentage, a 3.36 goals against average, and two shutouts. On call-up to Springfield in 2007-08, Fisher participated in one game, and received no decision.
For his professional career, Fisher has played in 64 games producing a 27-27-4 record with a 2.27 goals against average, 0.910 save percentage, and four shutouts.
The 26-year-old spent four years (2003-04 through 2006-07) at school playing for the University of Denver Pioneers prior to turning professional. His most productive season came in his final year in Denver (2006-07) when he went 13-9-2 in 24 games played with a 2.32 goals against average and 0.919 save percentage. Fisher also amassed three shutouts that year. In 2004 and 2005, Fisher helped the University of Denver reach the NCAA Frozen Four Tournament, and both seasons the Pioneers claimed the NCAA Championship. For his junior career, Fisher accrued a 39-22-6 record in 75 games played with a 0.900 save percentage, 2.52 goals against average, and four shutouts.
Fisher was a fifth-round selection (148th overall) of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. In June 2003 he participated in the Oilers' first ever prospect camp.
The Salmon Kings kick off the 2009-10 campaign tonight in Anchorage against the Aces. Catch all the action live on the B2 networks. Puck drop is at 8:15 p.m. PT.
