Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release
The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes have added another chapter to the championship tradition they are building in the Northwest. The San Francisco Giants' affiliate once again finished atop the Northwest League with a record of 49-27, to achieve their 5th NWL Championship and third in the last four years.
Thus, for the third time in four years, Volcanoes co-owner's Jerry Walker and Bill Tucker were faced with the pleasant challenge of designing a championship ring that would be an appropriate symbol for another group of champions. Again they selected MTM Recognition - the professionals who continue to set design standards for baseball championship rings. A look at the 2009 ring confirms, to even the most casual observer, that they met the challenge once again. "We have a great working relationship with the MTM representatives and have complete confidence in the quality and attention to detail that they bring to their projects," noted Walker. " Our challenge was to design a ring that is up to the standards we have set in years past - I'm convinced we did that. Besides the stones on top, we added some additional flash to the side of the ring with stones symbolizing our past championships - 4 for our consecutive NWL Division Championships the last four years and 5 for our NWL Championships in 1998, 2001, 2006, 2007 and 2009. It's a tradition that all of us here are very proud of and one that we wanted to commemorate in the ring design."
RINGS FOR FANS: In a move somewhat unique in sports, the Volcanoes are providing their fans the opportunity to own a Volcanoes Championship Ring. "One of the most prestigious and sought after items in sports, is the Championship Ring," noted Walker. "I believe it is fitting that we pass along the opportunity to our great fans to celebrate with us and have the opportunity to wear one of these great rings -- the exact same rings that the Volcanoes players and field staff will be receiving," concluded Walker.
Due to the enormity of the order, these impressive rings can be offered to fans at a very reasonable price, just $395, and fans who order before the end of October will receive their ring prior to Christmas . Each ring will be customized to include the name of the recipient! To order, or for more information, contact Rick Nelson, VP of Operations for the Volcanoes at 503-390-2225 ext. 3010.
Ring Description : Anchoring the top and bottom edge of the rectangular-shaped ring are the polished inscriptions "Northwest League" and "Champions" that frame a shimmering field of 31 white stones totaling approximately ½ carat with the scripted "Volcanoes" rising in gold from the background, creating a stunning silver/gold contrast.
One side of the ring features the familiar Volcanoes logo in black and red enamel and the season record of 49-27. Above the Volcanoes logo are the words "Salem Keizer", a banner proudly proclaiming the Volcanoes as "NWL Champions" and the year "2009".
The opposite side of the ring prominently features each recipient's name boldly polished at the top and their position or number at the bottom in a polished chevron. Just below the recipient's name is a symbolic banner with 9 hand-set white stones: 4 for the consecutive NWL Division Championships the last four years, and 5 for the NWL Championships in 1998, 2001, 2006, 2007 and 2009. Just below this symbolic banner of stones is the logo of the parent club San Francisco Giants accented in orange enamel.
