
Patriots Take 2-1 Championship Series Lead

Waldorf, MD- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 8-6 at Regency Furniture Stadium to take a 2-1 lead in the Atlantic League Championship Series.
The Blue Crabs struck for four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 4-0 lead. Rightfielder John Ramistella led off with a double to left center and scored when leftfielder James Shanks followed with an RBI ground-rule double to left center. Shortstop Travis Garcia then hit an RBI single to left that plated Shanks and after a single to right by third baseman Patrick Osborn, first baseman Cesar Nicolas hit a one out two run double down the left field line.
The Patriots got a run back in the top of the second inning to make it 4-1 when first baseman Travis Anderson slugged a two out solo home run (1) to left.
Southern Maryland answered with a run in the bottom of the second inning to take a 5-1 lead when Ramistella led off with a single up the middle, moved to third on a double into the right field corner by Shanks, and scored on a one out sacrifice fly to center by designated hitter Michael Tucker.
Somerset plated a run in the top of the fourth inning to cut the Blue Crabs' lead to 5-2 when Anderson was hit-by-a-pitch with two outs and came home on an RBI double to right center by leftfielder Elliott Ayala.
The Patriots tied the game at 5-5 with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Designated hitter Noah Hall lined a two out double into left center and scored when catcher Jason Belcher followed with an RBI single to center. Third baseman Jeff Nettles then crushed a two run home run (2) to left to tie the game.
Somerset rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take an 8-5 lead. Shortstop Anthony Granato drew a lead off walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, advanced to third on a single to left by Hall and scored on a one out RBI single to left by Belcher. After Nettles was hit-by-pitch to load the bases, Anderson ripped a two out two run single to center.
The Blue Crabs answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the Patriots' lead to 8-6 when catcher Octavio Martinez reached on a two out Patriots' fielding error on a ground ball to second and scored on an RBI double to right center by second baseman Mike Just.
Patriots' reliever Josh Miller (1-0) picked up the win, allowing one unearned run on eight hits while striking out one and walking one in 5.1 innings of work. Blue Crabs' reliever Paul Estrada (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing one run on one hits while walking one in one plus innings pitched. Patriots' reliever Travis Minix pitched the 2.1 scoreless innings for his second save of the post season.
The Patriots and the Blue Crabs continue the Championship Series with Game 4 at Regency Furniture Stadium on Sunday at 2:05 pm.
