Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that defenseman Dean Arsene has been named team captain of the Falcons for the 2009-10 season. The Falcons also announced that defenseman Jake Taylor and center Ryan Potulny have been named assistant captains.

Arsene enters his first season with the Falcons after being signed as a free agent by the Edmonton Oilers this past summer. He spent the previous six seasons with the AHL's Hershey Bears, helping lead the Bears to Calder Cup Championships in 2005-06 and 2008-09. In 267 career games with Hershey, he totaled seven goals and 36 assists for 43 points and 674 penalty minutes. Arsene is a veteran of 317 career AHL contests.

Both Taylor and Potulny are entering their second year with the Falcons. Potulny led Springfield in goals last year with 38, the second most goals recorded in a single season for the Falcons. Potulny is entering his fourth full professional season after splitting his first two professional campaigns between the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms and NHL's Philadelphia Flyers. Taylor spent the entire 2008-09 season with the Falcons and spent the previous campaign with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack.

The Falcons open their 2009-10 regular season schedule on Saturday, October 3 when they host the Portland Pirates starting at 7:00 pm at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons will be entering their 16th American Hockey League season and third year with their National Hockey League affiliate, the Edmonton Oilers.
