Rockets Staff To Host Vipers Local Tryouts

MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that senior basketball operations staff of the NBA Houston Rockets, led by Vice President of Player Personnel Gersson Rosas, will run the open tryouts for the 2009-10 Vipers on October 3 at the McAllen Convention Center as part of RGV Rocket Launch 2009.
Under the Rockets and Vipers new partnership, the Rockets now operate the Vipers basketball operations including player development and already have been working through the summer to build the 2009-10 Vipers roster. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. on October 3. There will be warm-up time starting at 10:00 a.m. followed by the start of the tryouts at 11:00 a.m.
Registration costs $150 and must be completed in advance by contacting the Vipers by phone at (956) 972-1144 or by visiting the Vipers headquarters at 4500 N. 10th Street. The necessary forms also can be downloaded at rgvipers.com and either faxed to (956) 972-1150 or mailed to the Vipers.
The tryout will be limited to 100 participants.
"This is a great opportunity for local athletes to showcase their abilities to both the Vipers and the Rockets and try to earn an opportunity to be a part of Vipers training camp in November," Vipers President/GM Brian Michael Cooper said.
