Toronto FC News Release

Toronto FC rookie goalkeeper Stefan Frei has nabbed the first "hat-trick" by a goalkeeper by winning MLS Save of the Week for the third week running. Frei won his most recent award after a point blank stop on Colorado's Nick LaBrocca in their 3-2 victory last Saturday at BMO Field.

"This just shows his consistent play," said goalkeeping coach Mike Toshack. "He's been making big saves for us all season, giving us a chance to win games and that's all you can ask of him. I don't think I ever remember a keeper winning this award three weeks in a row."

The Week 26 victory by Frei follows the two previous wins in games against the Rapids in Colorado on September 5, as well as the match on August 29 in Seattle.

Frei's performance solidifies the fact that the University of California, Berkeley product is a serious contender for MLS Rookie of the Year. The keeper was drafted 1st round, 13th overall in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft that was held in St.Louis, MO. He has started all 24 games he has played in this season.

Toronto FC will travel to Los Angeles to face the Galaxy this Saturday, September 19 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The match will be broadcast live on Rogers Sportsnet beginning at 10:30 p.m. ET.
