Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis blanked Sacramento in the opening game of the Pacific Coast League Championship Series with a 1-0 win Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.
David Freese's solo homer in the sixth inning proved to be the only run the 'Birds needed to claim a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-five championship series. The Redbirds won their second straight playoff game thanks to a Freese solo home run with Freese's round tripper against Albuquerque on Friday sealing a three-game sweep of the Isotopes. Freese finished the night with a game-high two hits, adding an eighth-inning single. The River Cats stranded 10 runners on base leaving at least one runner in each of the last eight frames.
Redbirds starter Jaime Garcia earned the win tossing 6.2 strong innings. The lefty scattered three hits while fanning seven to garner his second playoff victory. Sacramento starter and former Redbird Chris Gissell took the loss allowing one run on six hits over 6.1 innings. Pete Parise notched his third save of the playoffs working the ninth inning for Memphis.
The 'Birds play their final home game of the season tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Adam Ottavino will make his Redbirds playoff debut and face River Cats right-hander Chad Reineke. For ticket information call 901.721.6000 or visit memphisredbirds.com.
