
Mark Mullen Accepts Position with Los Angeles Kings of the NHL

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Mark Mullen, the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders' Assistant Coach, is leaving the team to pursue another opportunity, the RoughRiders announced today. Mullen has accepted a scouting position with the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL. "We thank Mark for his hard work and dedication over the last two years and wish him the best with the Los Angeles Kings. This is another indication of the caliber of people working in the United States Hockey League," said Mark Carlson, RoughRiders Head Coach and General Manager.
Mark Mullen joined the RoughRiders in the summer of 2007 after spending two seasons as an Assistant Coach at Andover (Massachusetts) High School. Prior to coaching, Mullen spent the 2004-05 season with the ECHL's Pee Dee Pride before retiring as a player. He scored 11 goals and collected 27 points in 51 games in his professional campaign. He also played in the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game and was clocked as the fastest skater at the ECHL All-Star Skills Competition. In college, Mullen skated in 149 games over four seasons at Boston University, scoring 29 goals and totaling 70 points while helping the Terriers to three NCAA tournament berths. Mullen also played for the Des Moines Buccaneers in 1999-2000. He scored ten goals and picked up 26 points in 58 games with the Bucs. The RoughRiders will open their eleventh season in Cedar Rapids this fall. 2009-10 season tickets are currently available through the RoughRiders' business office (319-247-0340). Fans who pay for season tickets in full before August 14 will receive a significant discount in addition to a host of other benefits available exclusively to season ticket holders. Single game tickets will go on sale on a date to be determined in September. The first ever Battle of Iowa will take place on September 19th and 20th at The Stable, where the RoughRiders will welcome their in-state United States Hockey League rivals from Waterloo, Des Moines and Sioux City for the four-team tournament.
The battle for statewide supremacy will open with a match-up between the Des Moines Buccaneers and Sioux City Musketeers on Saturday, September 19 at 3:00PM, followed by the RoughRiders vs. The Waterloo Black Hawks at 7:00PM. The Riders will then clash with either Des Moines or Sioux City at 5:00PM on Sunday the 20th. Tickets to the Battle of Iowa go on sale Tuesday, September 8th at the RoughRiders' ticket office at The Stable and online at www.roughridershockey.com. Tickets cover admission to two games per day for just $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Battle of Iowa tickets are included in season ticket holders' packages
