Visalia Rawhide News Release
With a three-game sweep of rival Bakersfield this weekend, the Rawhide have moved one game ahead of the Blaze for the final playoff spot in the California League North Division with 32 regular season games remaining.
Why:
Each year, three teams from each division make the playoffs. Normally, the two champions of the respective halves in each division advance, and the next best full-season record also gains a Wild Card berth. However, if the same team wins both halves, two Wild Card spots become open. With San Jose winning the first half and also leading the second half by 6 games, that second Wild Card berth is currently on the table. Modesto (58-50) leads the Wild Card standings, but the Rawhide (52-56), after winning three in a row this weekend, have overtaken Bakersfield (51-57) for that final spot. Stockton (47-61) is not out of the equation yet either, as they trail Visalia by five games in the overall standings.
What's the Point?
Despite a rough month of July, the Rawhide's season is far from over; in fact, the club has rebounded to win seven of nine, and reclaim the lead in the playoff race. There is still plenty of excitement to come during this final month of the season, and the team needs everyone's support more than ever! And if you still haven't seen the new-look Recreation Ballpark, there's never been a better time.
