Evansville Otters News Release

Evansville, IN - The Evansville Otters picked up their fourth straight win Sunday night, sweeping a doubleheader with the Windy City Thunderbolts at Bosse Field.

After heavy rain, lightning, and a power outage forced the suspension of Saturday's game, the teams picked things up Sunday evening in the bottom of the second inning with the Otters leading 8-1. The Otters would hang on to win 8-4, getting strong pitching performances from Nick Utley and Giovani Cotto. Utley (4-3) earned the win, while Brandon Garner (2-4) was hung with the loss.

After a 30-minute intermission, the seven inning second game began with the Otters again taking an early lead. Greg Alexander led off the second inning with an infield single and Frank Meade followed with a walk. Cameron Satterwhite then tried to bunt the runners over. He laid the ball halfway between home plate and the mound, with the pitcher Dustin Pease leaping off the mound to field it. Pease grabbed the ball and flung it wide of first, allowing both Alexander and Meade to score and Satterwhite to advance to second base. Satterwhite would score when Jeremy Strack doubled two batters later for a 3-0 lead.

Guillermo Martinez would score the 'Bolts first run in the fourth inning on a Dustin Renfrow wild pitch to cut the Otters' lead to 3-1.

Evansville would pick up a couple of important insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Satterwhite began the inning with a single and took second base on a failed pickoff attempt by Pease. With two outs, Strack singled to left field to bring in Satterwhite, but the ball got under left fielder Damian Walcott's glove and rolled all the way to the wall. Strack came all the way around to score on the play, which was ruled a single and a three-base error.

Windy City would mount a final push in the seventh inning. Renfrow started the inning looking for the complete game victory, but after serving up a single to Bryan Cook and an RBI double to Pete Paris, he was lifted in favor of Justin Smith. Paris would eventually come around to score on a sacrifice fly, but Smith struck out Marcus Spencer to end the game, giving the Otters a 5-3 victory.

Renfrow (4-5) earned the win, allowing three runs in six innings while striking out five and walking none. Pease (8-4) absorbed the loss, allowing five unearned runs on eight hits in six innings. Smith earned his ninth save, recording all three outs in the ninth inning.

The Otters (22-43) are now 8-0 in doubleheader games this year. They will go for the sweep Monday at 7:05pm CDT.
