Columbus Clippers News Release

The Clippers will send RHP Hector Rondon to the mound tonight, making his 100th career appearance (needs 6.0IP for 500 in his career). Gwinnett will counter with RHP James Parr. The Clippers are 34-40 against right-handers this season. Parr has never faced the Clippers in his career. Tonight is the second game of a nine-day, eight-game home stand with Gwinnett (0-1) and Buffalo.

Columbus has lost two of the last three against Gwinnett, including the first ever matchup between the two teams at Huntington Park. On the season, Michael Brantley has had the most success against the G-Braves, batting .571 (12x21) with a HR, 3RBI and eight runs scored in only five games. Matt LaPorta has hit .304 (7x23) with a HR and 4RBI in five games against Gwinnett.

Marson Comes in Rolling

Lou Marson had his 19 game on base streak snapped Friday night (first 18 games were with Lehigh Valley). Over that stretch, he hit .368 (21x57) and collected 12 walks to post an on base percentage of .478. He also scored 14 runs over that same time period, while raising his batting average 26 points to .294 and his on base percentage 37 points to .384.

First to 500

By scoring nine runs at Lehigh Valley Friday night, the Clippers became the first team in the I.L. to reach 500 runs scored. The Clippers (504) own an 11-run lead over Scranton/WB for most in the league. The Clippers are also the only team to allow at least 500 runs (526).Last night, Wyatt Toregas became the sixth Clipper to debut in the Majors this year when he started at catcher against the Tigers (1x5, RBI). He was the first Clipper to debut since Chris Gimenez, Columbus' other opening day catcher, came in as a defensive replacement on 6/3 at Minnesota. Other Clippers to have played their first Major League game this season are Trevor Crowe (4/9), Tony Sipp (4/22), Matt LaPorta (5/3) and David Huff (5/17). Currently, there are nine opening day Clippers on the Cleveland roster.

Perez Back on Track

A day after giving up his first run of the season, Rafael Perez responded by throwing a shutout inning at the Gwinnett Braves. Perez has held the opposition scoreless in 14 of his 15 appearances on the year, including a streak of 17.2 scoreless innings.
