Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Doug Leaverton has committed to Colorado College, the RoughRiders announced today. Leaverton will begin his college career in the fall.

"As an organization we're very happy and excited for Doug," said RoughRiders Coach and General Manager Mark Carlson. "He's made real strides as a player during this two years with the RoughRiders and at the same time he still has tremendous upside, which is very exciting for both Doug and Colorado College."

Leaverton, 20, scored one goal and totaled four points while posting a plus/minus rating of +7 in 52 games with the RoughRiders last season. Over two seasons in Cedar Rapids, the Painsville, Ohio, native collected seven points and was a +19 while playing a total of 72 games.

Leaverton will join RoughRider teammate Scott Winkler at Colorado College. A perennial power in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, C.C. went 16-12-10 last season and has reached the NCAA tournament 11 of the last 15 years.

Leaverton joins Greg Burke (New Hampshire), Jeff Costello (Notre Dame), Matt Donovan (Denver), Kyle Flanagan (St. Lawrence), Mike Johnson (Notre Dame), Zach Lehrke (Minnesota State-Mankato), Cody Murphy (Miami of Ohio), Tobias Nilsson-Roos (Vermont), Nick Oddo (Nebraska-Omaha), Paul Phillips (Denver), Darren Rowe (Massachusetts), Mike Seidel (Minnesota-Duluth), Matt Tennyson (Western Michigan) and Winkler as the fifteenth member of the 2008-09 RoughRiders to make a college commitment.

The RoughRiders will open their eleventh United States Hockey League season on October 3 in Des Moines against the Buccaneers. The Riders will open on home ice on Saturday, October 17 at 7:00PM against the Chicago Steel.

2009-10 season tickets are currently available through the RoughRiders' business office (247-0340). Fans who pay for season tickets in full before August 14 will receive a significant discount in addition to a host of other benefits available exclusively to season ticket holders.

The RoughRiders also offer the Flex Plan, which enables fans to purchase books of ten ticket vouchers that can be redeemed in any quantity for any regular season home game during normal box office hours. Fans who purchase the flex plan receive a significant discount ($21 off game day ticket prices) by investing in bulk tickets and can still enjoy the games of their choice in the seats they want.

Single game tickets will go on sale on a date to be determined in September.
