Kevin Whitted Named Asst Coach to NBA D League Team Springfield Armor

WILMINGTON, NC - July 30, 2009 -- In a press conference on yesterday at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, MA, the new expansion team for the NBA Development league, Springfield Armor, named former NBA player Kevin Whitted as Assistant Coach and former NBA player Dee Brown as Head Coach.

"This is truly a blessing the have the opportunity to be apart of this organization," states Whitted. "Being able to work along side Dee Brown developing young talent in a city with such a rich basketball tradition is phenomenal."

Whitted started his basketball career as a Laney High School standout becoming the all time leading scorer surpassing Michael Jordan's record. Following, he had a playing career that included 972 points in three years at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Whitted, who enjoyed a seven year professional basketball career in the NBA and Europe has made impressive strides in the past five years as a coach. He began his professionalcoaching career in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the Professional Basketball League (PBL). During Whitted's first two years as a head coach, he won two division championships in the ABA. His well-rounded background also includes the role of General Manager and President of Basketball Operations for the Wilmington Sea Dawgs. After two seasons at the helm with the Wilmington Sea Dawgs, Whitted made his NBA D-League debut as an assistant with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants last season.

In addition, he has been recognized nationally as a basketball skill developer working along side top skill developers and NBA players: Amarea Stoudemire, Vince Carter, Deron Williams and LeBron James in the Nike Skills Academies.

The founder of the Kevin Whitted School of Basketball and Kevin Whitted Basketball Services, he states that skill development and developing young talent is most important in the game of basketball. Whitted will host an Elite basketball camp at the Wilmington Family YMCA August 3rd through the 7th. In addition he will hold the fall session for the Kevin Whitted School of Basketball in September.

Currently, Kevin resides in Kure Beach, North Carolina with his wife De`Neia and their daughters Peyton (14) and Paige (2).
