Missoula PaddleHeads News Release
MISSOULA, MT - The last time the Missoula Osprey won this many games in a row, they were trying to make a run at a wild-card berth in 2006. As they chase the Pioneer League North Division first-half title, they have equaled that winning streak.
Paul Goldschmidt had two hits and drove in three runs, while Ramon Castillo's two-run double keyed a six-run fourth inning, as the Osprey won its fifth straight game, taking a 11-6 decision from the Helena Brewers on Monday in front of 2,209 fans at Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
It's the first time the Osprey (19-13) have won five in a row in the regular season since August 29-September 3, 2006, when the Osprey beat Idaho Falls twice and Great Falls in three straight. The Osprey also closed the 2006 season by winning its final two games, then won four straight in the postseason to win the 2006 Pioneer League championship.
The win also came at an opportune time for the Osprey; as Billings held on to beat Great Falls, 4-3. That extends the Missoula lead in the North to two games over Great Falls, and three games over Helena, with six games remaining in the first half.
Raywily Gomez and Ender Inciarte joined Goldschmidt and Castillo with two hits each as the Osprey collected 11 hits against three Helena pitchers. David Nick added a two-run home run, his third of the season, while Keon Broxton (RBI triple) and David Narodowski added hits for Missoula.
Charles Brewer (3-0), in relief of starter Mike Belfiore, managed to hold down the Brewers enough to pick up the win on the mound. Brewer, Belfiore, Scott Allen and Ryan Robowski combined to scatter nine hits and strike out 11 Brewers on the night.
The Osprey will play their final home game of the first half on Tuesday against the Brewers. Miguel Pena will get the ball for the Osprey, while right-hander Damon Krestalude will get the start for the Brewers.
Tickets for any remaining game this season can be obtained for all Osprey home games by calling the Osprey at (406) 543-3300, stopping by the Osprey Team Store at 412 W. Alder, or ordering online at www.missoulaosprey.com.
