Stevens Becomes 34th Former Dragon to Reach Majors

Dayton, Ohio-Former Dayton Dragons pitcher Jeff Stevens was promoted to the Major Leagues today by the Chicago Cubs. Stevens pitched for the Dragons in 2006 and becomes the 34th former Dragons player to reach the big leagues.

Stevens was signed by the Cincinnati Reds after being drafted in the 6th round in 2005 out of Loyola Marymount University. He spent the first half of the 2006 season with the Dragons before being traded to the Cleveland Indians as the player to be named later in an earlier trade that sent Brandon Phillips from Cleveland to Cincinnati.

Stevens had spent the first three months of the 2009 season with the Iowa Cubs. He was acquired by the Chicago Cubs from the Indians prior to this season in a deal that sent veteran Mark DeRosa to Cleveland.

Stevens pitched in 14 games for the Dragons in 2006 and made six starts, posting a record of 2-4 with a 4.43 earned run average. He logged 42.2 innings with the Dragons.

The Dragons play at Clinton tonight at 8:00 p.m. (EDT). The next home game at Fifth Third Field is Wednesday, July 15th at 7:00 p.m. vs. the Quad Cities River Bandits.
