STATE COLLEGE, PA - Evan Chambers, in his second professional game, delivered a tiebreaking, solo home run to right field to give the State College Spikes a 5-4 victory over the Williamsport Crosscutters in front of a Fourth of July crowd of 4,542 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Saturday.

Chambers led off in the bottom of the eighth against Esmelvin Jimenez (0-1) with his first professional homer, completing a 2-for-4 performance that also included a double and two runs scored.

Brock Holt also contributed a solo home run to right field for State College (8-8), his second of the season, in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie.

Kyle Morgan went 2-for-4 for the Spikes, scoring a run and driving one in while also stealing two bases.

Victor Black (1-0) pitched the seventh and eighth innings for the Spikes to earn the win. The Pirates' 2009 supplemental first-round draft pick allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out one. Marc Baca (1) picked up the save by shutting out Williamsport (9-7) in the ninth.

Jimenez took the loss for Williamsport after pitching the eighth inning in relief of Crosscutters starter Siulman LeBron.

The Spikes and Crosscutters next meet for the second game of a three-game series Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport. Right-hander Jason Erickson (0-0) starts on the hill for State College, while the Crosscutters counter with right-hander Jonathan Pettibone (1-0).
