Oklahoma City RedHawks (36-38) at Nashville Sounds (43-33)

Game 75 | June 28, 2009, 6:00 pm CDT | Greer Stadium | Nashville, TN

Tonight's scheduled starting pitchers:

RH Luis Mendoza (2-2, 5.30) vs. LH Manny Parra (0-1, 1.38)

TONIGHT: After having their 6-game winning streak stopped with an 11-5 loss last night, the RedHawks continue this 7-game trip with the second of 4 against the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers). OKC leads the season series 5-4 and is 2-3 at Greer Stadium. OKC is in sole possession of second in the American Conference South, 2.5 games back of Albuquerque, which has won 9 of 11 and 11 of its last 14. Nashville leads the American North by 2.5 games over Iowa. With scheduled starter Tommy Hunter heading to the Rangers for a start tomorrow, OKC will piece together a bullpen effort headed by Luis Mendoza. Nashville counters with lefty Manny Parra, making his third start since being sent down by Milwaukee.

STREAK ENDS WITH AUTHORITY: OKC allowed 10 runs during a 6-game winning streak that started a week ago last night against Nashville and ended last night at the hands of the Sounds. In last night's game alone, OKC allowed 11 runs, all charged to starter Bryan Corey, in an 11-5 Sounds win. Corey (3-3) allowed 3 home runs, matching most against the RedHawks in a game this year. Included were 3-run shots in back-to-back innings by Brendan Katin and Hernan Iribarren. The RedHawks had not allowed a homer since the game before the streak began, June 19, when Adam Heether (who also had a solo shot last night) went deep in the first inning against Elizardo Ramirez in OKC. Nashville out-hit OKC 15-8 and opened an 11-1 lead at one point. Julio Borbon led off the game with a triple and Joaquin Arias had 3 RBIs to lead the RedHawks. Mike Hinckley followed Corey into the game in the fifth inning and tossed 3.1 scoreless frames, allowing 2 hits. OKC left 12 men on base and went 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Despite its 15 hits and 11 runs, the Sounds stranded only 4 runners.

BULLPEN ERA DROPS AGAIN: In the last 7 games, the RedHawks' bullpen has combined to pitch 22.1 innings while allowing 2 runs on 13 hits, a 0.81 ERA. The bullpen has lowered its collective ERA from 5.04 heading into this stretch to today's 4.67.

ERRORS STILL RARE: The RedHawks had made just 1 error in 7 games prior to last night, but committed a pair in the series opener, with neither causing an unearned run. After making 45 errors in their first 49 games, OKC fielders have just 12 miscues in the last 25 contests. The RedHawks are tied for the fifth-best fielding percentage in the league at .979 and have fifth-fewest errors (57).

JUNE SURGE: The RedHawks are 15-10 in June, having surpassed their win totals from April (9) and May (12). OKC, Nashville Reno and Sacramento all have 15 wins, sharing the second-most victories in the month behind New Orleans' 16-9 mark. Despite the June record, the RedHawks have trimmed only 1 game off the division lead this month, having concluded May 3.5 games back. Division leader Albuquerque is 14-11 in June.

GERMAN KEEPS HITTING: Esteban German leads the team with a .305 batting average, 36 RBIs and 22 stolen bases. He's third in the PCL in on-base percentage at .423 and third in walks with 48.

HOME/ROAD SPLITS: OKC is second in the PCL in home wins with 25, behind Sacramento's 28. The RedHawks are 25-18 at home and 11-20 on the road. OKC has lost its last 3 road games dating to the previous trip.

SHOWDOWN ON ESPN2: The fourth Bricktown Showdown at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark is Sept. 22 at 6:05 p.m. CDT, and will once again be live on ESPN2. The Bricktown Showdown is a one-game Triple-A Championship matching the champions of the PCL and International League.
