May 25, 2009 - Southern League (SL1)
Birmingham Barons News Release

HOOVER, AL - A fan-friendly approach to baseball coupled with the best record in the Southern League has proven to be the perfect recipe for the Birmingham Barons in 2009. Heading into the final week of May, the Barons are on pace for their highest attendance total since 1994; and the second highest attendance total in the history of Regions Park.

Thus far, 88,061 fans have crossed through the turnstiles at Regions Park to watch the Barons play. The 4,892 average attendance figure is the second-highest average in the Southern League and eclipses last year's 18-game mark by more than 400 fans per game. That number puts the Barons on pace to welcome 327,764 fans into Regions Park this season.

"We strive to offer affordable, family fun for each of our fans, and we are very excited to see that our fans are embracing our product in such numbers," Barons General Manager, Jonathan Nelson said.

The all-time Regions Park attendance figure is 467,868 set in 1994 when Michael Jordan roamed the outfield for the Birmingham Barons. The team average 6,983 fans per game that year, also a Regions Park high.

The Barons return home tomorrow to take on the Mississippi Braves for the first of a five-game series. The annual Rickwood Classic is scheduled for Wednesday with a 12:35 PM first pitch. Longtime Braves broadcaster, Pete Van Wieren will throw out the game's first pitch.
