Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - Justin Greene's RBI single capped the Intimidators late rally on Wednesday afternoon at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, as Kannapolis pulled out the 5-4 walk-off win over the Greenville Drive.
Greene singled to second base with the infield drawn in of off Caleb Clay to score Kenny Williams from third and end the game. Joe Persichina had scored the game-tying run moments earlier on a wild pitch from Clay.
The Intimidators (10-4) appeared to be in good shape early in the game thanks to a solid start from Charlie Leesman. The Kannapolis southpaw started with six scoreless innings, but stumbled in the seventh, allowing all four of Greeneville's runs. Leesman did not factor in the decision after 6 1/3 innings on the mound. He allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits. Leesman also struck out seven and walked just one.
The Intimidators cut into a late three-run deficit with two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Sergio Morales and Jorge Castillo each picked up RBIs to set the stage for the ninth inning finale. Morales, playing in just his second game since joining the Intimidators on Tuesday, notched two RBIs, including one on a sixth-inning triple.
All five Intimidators runs were charged to Clay (0-1), who pitched the final 3 1/3 innings of relief. Casey Kelly pitched five scoreless innings in the start, but came out with a no-decision.
Dan Remenowsky (2-0) earned the win after keeping the Drive (8-6) off the board in the top of the ninth.
