Boston Lobsters Appoint Bud Schultz as Coach

Middleton, MA, Ferncroft Country Club (March XX, 2009) - The Boston Lobsters announced today that William "Bud" Schultz will debut as the team's new coach for the 2009 season. Bud has been an active member of the tennis community for his entire life, as a college and professional player, coach, club owner and community tennis advocate. Bud joins the Boston Lobsters as head coach on March 9 and his first official duty will be to assist in the 2009 roster selection at the WTT draft on March 31st in Miami. Former coaches of the Boston Lobsters include Tim Mayotte (2007-8) and Anne Smith (2005-6).
"The Boston Lobsters will benefit immensely from the wealth of knowledge, coaching experience, enthusiasm and talent that Bud brings to the team," commented Bahar Uttam, CEO of the Boston Lobsters. "We are honored to have him join us and look forward to a memorable season."
Bud Schultz was born in Connecticut and attended Bates College where he was a three time All-American in tennis. He then went on to play professional tennis from 1982 to 1989, competing in all of the Grand Slam Majors and reaching a career high ranking of 39. After his retirement from professional tennis, he earned a Masters in Sports Management from University of MA and coached players such as Ivan Lendl, Pam Shriver and Greg Rusedski. Bud was inducted into the New England Tennis Hall of Fame in 2002.
The Boston Lobsters and Bud are both strong advocates for expanding tennis throughout every community. In 1998 Bud and Ned Eames co founded Tenacity, a city wide tennis organization that now provides tennis and academic support to over 5000 children in need in the Boston area. Tenacity's program combines after school literacy programs with life skills and tennis instruction, enabling at risk students to succeed and is known as one of the best urban tennis programs in the country.

"Tennis is a great family experience and the Boston Lobsters enable New England tennis fans including many children throughout the area to not only participate in tennis, but to also see some of the greatest players of all time."
This season, the Boston Lobsters line up will feature returning player and tennis legend Martina Navratilova and the Lobsters will play against current No 1 in the world Serena Williams at home (Washington Kastles) and against Andre Agassi on the road (Philadelphia Freedom). In 2001 Bud and his wife purchased the Cohasset Tennis Club. He currently lives in Sudbury and has three children, including son Christo who is ranked top 20 in the country and will play at Harvard next year.
