Portland Winterhawks News Release

Luke Walker scored his second hat trick of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Portland Winter Hawks fell in their final game of the 2008-09 season to the Chilliwack Bruins 4-3 at the Memorial Coliseum on Sunday night.

Walker got on the scoreboard first, banging home a centering pass from Chris Francis halfway through the first period. Ryan Kerr also assisted on the play for the Hawks.

Chilliwack got all of their goals in the second period, two by Mike Krgovich and single markers by Jeff Einhorn and Brendan Manning, to take a 4-1 lead into the final period.

Portland got a power play halfway through the final period and Walker pounded home his second of the game off assists from Killian Hutt and Francis to cut the lead to 4-2. Just over two minutes later, Walker cut the lead to one when he one-timed a pass from Travis Ehrhardt. Travis Bobbee chipped in an assist on the play.

Portland would pull goaltender Kurtis Mucha in the final minute but couldn't get the equalizer.

Ian Curtis started in net for Portland and made 12 saves on 16 shots in just over 38 minutes before giving way to Mucha who handled all seven shots he faced.

On special teams, Portland finished the night 2 for 6 on the power play while killing off all four man advantages against.

The game marked the end of the 2008-09 season for Portland, they will return to action in September.
