Admirals five unanswered goals sink Chops

March 5, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Iowa Chops News Release

The Chops put on a show early, with first period goals by Eric Boguniecki and Ryan Dingle, and tons of great hits to keep the Admirals at bay, but their issues with special teams continued as the Admirals went 2 for 3 on the power play, while the Chops were 0 for 5. The Admirals scored five unanswered goals to top the Chops on Thursday night, 6-2.

The Chops took the lead with just over a minute into the game, when Eric Boguniecki slipped the puck past Drew MacIntyre on an offensive break with help from Petteri Wirtanen and Matt Beleskey. It was a great goal to start off the game, but the tide quickly shifted in the first, when penalty troubles saw the Chops go down a man twice in the first, leading to two power play goals by Milwaukee, by Hugh Jessiman and Andreas Thuresson. Ryan Dingle was able to get a goal by MacIntyre in the first as well with little more than five minutes in the period. The Chops faced even worse fate when, with five seconds left in the game, the Admirals were able to get the go-ahead goal off of a shot by Scott Ford to put Milwaukee up 3-2 at the end of one period.

The Chops came out thundering in the beginning of the second period, possibly angered by the last-second goal scored by Ford. The shots rang off in favor of the Chops 14 to six in the second period, but the Admirals showed the Chops that shots don't win the games with a goal by Ryan Maki. Maki's goal put the Admirals up five to two with just under seven minutes to go, and they didn't quit, putting the Chops under heavy offensive pressure throughout the rest of the second period.

The final stanza played out with J.P. Levasseur relieving David LeNeveu, but his first test in the third period was a tough one, as Kelsey Wilson fires a zinger of a shot past Levasseur's glove side, putting the Admirals up six to two. The Admirals continued applying pressure on the puck, keeping the Chops away from lengthy possessions. The Chops leave the ice Thursday night with a rough loss, but don't expect them to leave Milwaukee quietly. The Chops play the Admirals again Friday night at 7pm.
