Hold that Tiger – Bill Mosiello named Kernels skipper

January 29, 2009 - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have selected Auburn assistant coach Bill Mosiello as the Kernels 2009 manager in an announcement made by Abe Flores, Director of Player Development, at the 13th Annual Hot Stove Banquet on Thursday night.

Mosiello has four years of professional experience in the Yankees organization including a 129-98 (.568) record as the manager of the Charleston RiverDogs of the South Atlantic League. He was named the interim manager with the Battle Creek Yankees in 2004, compiling a 59-50 record in the MWL.

He brings 15 years collegiate coaching experience as a Division I assistant at Cal State Fullerton, Tennessee, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Southern Cal and most recently, Auburn University. Mosiello earned Manager of the Year honors twice in the Alaska Summer League (1990 and 1991) and once in the Cape Cod Baseball League (1998). He was also the head coach at Cerritos College (163-34) and in four seasons won four South Coast Conference titles and two California state junior college championships.

Mosiello did not play professional baseball after completing his college career as a catcher with Fresno State in 1986. He joins the Kernels field staff which includes: Brandon Emanuel, pitching coach; Brent Del Chiaro, hitting coach; and Dan Nichols, athletic trainer.

The Cedar Rapids Kernels open the 2009 season against the Beloit Snappers on Thursday, April 9 at 6:35 pm. Season tickets and 10-game coupon books are on sale now at www.kernels.com , and individual game tickets go on sale March 16 at 10 am.
