Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- A shoulder injury has ended the season of Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Greg Burke, the RoughRiders announced today.

Burke, who will begin his college career at the University of New Hampshire in the fall, has been on injured reserve since November.

"We enjoyed having Greg here and his injury is unfortunate- but it's part of hockey. We wish him the best of luck in the future," said RoughRiders Coach and General Manager Mark Carlson. "As a team we have been prepared for him being out for the season since November."

Burke, a native of Lee, New Hampshire, scored two goals in eight games with the Riders this season. In November, Burke helped the United States to a gold medal at the World Junior A Challenge in Camrose, Alberta.

The 18-year old was selected by the Washington Capitals in the sixth round of last June's National Hockey League Draft with the one hundred seventy-fourth overall pick after leading the Eastern Junior Hockey League's New Hampshire Junior Monarch in scoring last season.

The RoughRiders (23-8-3, 49 points) are in second place overall in the USHL. The Riders return to action with a pair of home games this weekend. The Riders will host the Chicago Steel Friday night and the Des Moines Buccaneers Saturday evening. Both games face off at 7:05PM.
