Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Reading, PA - The top two farm teams for the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies will play each other in a pre-season exhibition game at Reading's FirstEnergy Stadium on Tuesday, April 7 at 6:35 PM. The Double-A Reading Phillies will play the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs, to benefit Baseballtown Charities, just like they did in 2008. The region's leading health insurer, Capital BlueCross, is again the presenting sponsor. The IronPigs topped the R-Phils, 6-2 in last year's fundraiser.
"On behalf of Reading, Allentown and everywhere else the fans of these two teams hail from, Capital BlueCross is pleased to serve as the presenting sponsor of this exhibition rematch," said William Lehr, Jr., president & CEO of Capital BlueCross. "We sponsor both teams, so Capital BlueCross will remain neutral regarding the outcome. That said, we recognize that no matter the score, the true winners will be the children who benefit from Baseballtown Charities. Putting kids in uniforms and on the field is the true meaning of this friendly competition."
Every seat in FirstEnergy Stadium will be sold as a $5 donation to Baseballtown Charities. Season ticket and mini-plan holders from both teams will receive advance order forms. Exhibition game tickets will go on sale to the general public online at readingphillies.com and the FirstEnergy Stadium box office on February 12.
Thanks to Capital BlueCross, all proceeds from the game's ticket sales will benefit the Reading Phillies Baseballtown Charities, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping more children, who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity, play baseball. Complete registration and financial information of Baseballtown Charities can be obtained from the Pennsylvania Department of State at 1-800-732-0999.
The Reading Phillies trademarked the name Baseballtown in 2002 and began programs in its name with goals to honor Reading's rich baseball history and secure its baseball future by giving more kids the opportunity to play and learn from the game's life lessons.
