Birmingham Barons News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Barons are proud to partner with the U.S. Marines for their annual "Toys For Tots" drive.
Regions Park will serve as a drop-off site for the 2008 toy collection. Members of the community can bring new, unwrapped toys to the Barons front office during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5 pm) from now until December 18. Toys will also be accepted during the Barons' annual Holiday Sale at Regions Park, which will be on Saturday, December 13, from 9 am-5 pm.
Anyone who donates a toy before the deadline will receive a 10% discount on any Barons merchandise. The soldiers request that no harmful toys (knives, guns, other weapons, or projectiles) be included in the donation.
"We are proud to once again partner with the Marines for such a worthy cause as 'Toys For Tots'," said Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson. "We feel it is important for us to be active in giving back to the community, and this is a perfect opportunity for us to help brighten others' spirits during the holiday season."
Each year, the Marines collect new, unwrapped toys to distribute to needy children across the state of Alabama and ensure that those kids have an exciting Christmas. This year, toys will be given out in 15 counties, ranging from Huntsville to Montgomery and spanning the entire width of the state of Alabama. The Marines' Anti-Terrorism Battalion, stationed locally in Bessemer, will handle dispersal of the toys.
For more information on the drive itself, fans can either contact the Barons front office at (205) 988-3200 or contact Sgt. Chandler Logan at (205) 426-0555, ext. 229. More information on the Barons is also available online at www.barons.com.
