Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, CA - The Fresno Grizzlies and the City of Fresno Parks, Afterschool, Recreation, and Community Services Department are planning a very special holiday celebration at Eaton Plaza near City Hall in Downtown Fresno. The Second Annual Christmas in the Park celebration, presented by the Grizzlies Community Fund, will consist of two days of carnival rides, holiday craft boutiques, food vendors, holiday music, and the 79th annual Christmas Parade during the second weekend of December.

The Christmas in the Park Celebration will begin on Friday, December 12th, when the carnival will run from 5:00pm to 10:00pm at Eaton Plaza near City Hall. On Saturday, December 13th the Christmas parade will begin at 10:00am, and day two of the carnival will start at 12:00pm and continue until 10:00pm.

"The Christmas in the Park celebration, and the annual Christmas parade, is something we hope all families will have the chance to enjoy," said Grizzlies Director of Community Relations Danielle Witt. "This is a wonderful event for Fresno, and the downtown community, and a gathering that the Grizzlies Community Fund is proud to be able to support."

KSEE24, Fresno's NBC affiliate, will televise and host the pre-parade show and parade without commercial interruption on Saturday morning. Last year's event was enjoyed by over 9,000 people. In addition to the rides and games, there will be food and craft vendors as well as youth choirs performing each hour during the day, and a band to perform in the evening.

There will be a $1.00 per ticket charge for all carnival rides and games at the Christmas in the Park celebration, but attendees can circumvent those costs with a little generosity. Canned goods will be collected at the gates, with the proceeds headed to Community Food Bank, and each food item donated will be redeemed for a free ride ticket. Additionally, anyone who brings a coat or toy to benefit the Department of Children and Family Services will receive five carnival tickets.

The Fresno Grizzlies Community Fund, the non-profit arm of the team, was created to assist, reward, and support the greater Fresno community. In addition to the 2008 Christmas in the Park celebration, the Fund supports hundreds of charity and non-profit groups in the region, and has created several of its own community programs including Wild About Reading, Swing for Kids and the Junior Grizzlies, a non-competitive baseball league for children with mental and physical disabilities.

The Second Annual Christmas in the Park Celebration and 79th Annual Christmas Parade will be held in downtown Fresno on Friday, December 12th and Saturday, December 13th.
