Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (Nov. 6, 2008) - Two international players - one well-known to Milwaukee Wave fans, the other brand new - signed their Xtreme Soccer League contracts this week and joined the four-time league champion Wave.
Lovelace Ackah has been on the Wave back line through three championship seasons and begins his 10th year with the club. The native of Ghana is second on the team's all-time list for blocks with 387 and sixth in games played with 285. The "Love Machine" has 32 career goals and 105 points.
"I am very excited about Love coming back for his 10th year," said Keith Tozer, Wave head coach and vice president of soccer operations. "He has proven over the years to be one of the best man-to-man markers in the league and his experience in four championships is vital as we prepare for this upcoming season."
From the fertile futsal ground of Brazil comes rookie Nilson Pernambuco. A 23-year-old target forward, he was the top scorer in the Sergipe Futsal Cup, the Sergipe Futsal League and the Northeast Futsal League, all in 2008. He hails from the same region as Wave midfielder Marcio Leite and defender Jonathan Santos.
"Even though he lacks indoor experience, he has all the tools to be the next upcoming star in the XSL," Tozer said. "He is a proven goal scorer in futsal, has a nose for the goal and is quick and agile. There will be a learning curve as to how quickly he picks up the indoor game."
The Milwaukee Wave open their Silver Anniversary season at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 with a home game against the Detroit Ignition. The inaugural season of the Xtreme Soccer League features Milwaukee, Detroit, the Chicago Storm and New Jersey Ironmen playing a 20-game schedule from mid-December through April.
Founded this summer by the Milwaukee Wave, Detroit Ignition, New Jersey Ironmen and Chicago Storm, the Xtreme Soccer League is more than an indoor soccer league. The Xtreme Soccer Xperience is an energetic and innovative 12-month sports lifestyle brand built around skilled soccer professionals, entertainment and fan participation - both live and online.
