Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Wednesday that they have signed rookie center Ryan Salvis for the 2008-09 season. Salvis comes to the Bucks from the ECHL's Bakersfield Condors, where he suited up in four games last season, and one this season, making him still a rookie (25 pro games or less). Salvis is expected to be in the line-up Thursday when the Bucks host the Odessa Jackalopes on Big Buck Thirsty Thursday, where beer is $2 all night. Call 718-BUCK (2825) for tickets.

Salvis, 6'0'', 190 pounds, picked up two assists in four regular season games last year with the Condors, and scored two goals in six playoff games last season.

"I've been looking for a number one center ice man, we think Salvis could fit that bill", said Bucks Head Coach and General Manager Terry Ruskowski. "We spoke a lot over the phone over the summer, we are excited for him to come".

Before turning pro at the end of last season, the Toronto, Ontario native played three seasons for St. Francis Xavier University (CIS), where he scored 18 goals, handed out 29 assists, for 47 points. Salvis picked up 100 penalty minutes in 74 games played.

"We have seen his numbers, and they look pretty good, we are excited to see what he can do here", Ruskowski said. "We have heard good things about him".

While at St. Francis, Salvis' goal totals increased every season, as he scored three goals in 2005-06, seven in 2006-07, and eight in 2007-08.

Prior to his college playing days, Salvis played four years of junior hockey in the QMJHL, and USHL.

Salvis spent his first three-and-a-half seasons with QMJHL's Moncton Wildcats, before finishing out his junior career with the USHL's Lincoln Stars.

In his four years of juniors combined, Salvis scored 44 goals, with 73 assists, for 117 points, in 236 games.

The Bucks will start a seven-game home stand Thursday, when they host the Odessa Jackalopes on Big Buck Thirsty Thursday, where beer is $2 all night long!

Part of the Proceeds from ticket sales to the Bucks game against Rio Grande Valley on Saturday, November 8th will benefit the Wounded Warriors Project. In addition, there will be limited seating for Veterans to get a FREE TICKET to the game, thanks to LNB, Westwind Homes, Doctors Hospital, and Whataburger. Call 718-BUCK (2825) for more information.
