BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs are 4-0 for just the second time in franchise history after their second consecutive 6-2 victory over the Mississippi RiverKings Saturday night at CenturyTel Center. Brett Smith had a hat trick and both Chris Brassard and Tyrel Lucas had three assists as the Mudbugs rolled to victory in their second home game of the season.The RiverKings opened the scoring in this one when Bobby Chaumont gave Mississippi a 1-0 lead less than three minutes in, but the Bugs would answer back with goals from Kevin Cooper and Simon Mangos on the powerplay to go up 2-1 after one.
Smith had a pair of even-strength markers in the second frame to make it 4-1 Bossier-Shreveport after forty minutes.
Then in the third, Joe Blaznek's powerplay goal made it 5-1 Mudbugs before former Mudbug Dallas Costanzo made it 5-2 with a goal on the man-advantage for Mississippi. Smith's shorthanded goal with just over two minutes remaining completed his fourth career Mudbugs hat trick and rounded out the scoring for a 6-2 Bossier-Shreveport victory.
Ryan Mior stopped 16 of 18 shots in goal to earn his second pro victory, while Kevin Beech made 14 saves on 20 shots in the loss. The Mudbugs finished the night going 2 for 8 on the powerplay, while the RiverKings were 1 for 6.
Up next for the Mudbugs is a date with another undefeated team, the Colorado Eagles on Thursday night at CenturyTel Center. The Bugs will battle the defending Northern Conference Champions starting at 7:05 pm on Thursday evening.
