Kabongo brings his powerful presence from the football field to the community

(Edmonton) A staple along the offensive line, Patrick Kabongo is also a staple in the community. The 5th year Eskimo will be this year's recipient of the David Boone Award, the club announced today.

Kabongo has taken part in over 40 community events this year including nine Comfree Stay in School appearances; seven DARE program visits and several Read-In-Week appearances to both French and English speaking schools. Patrick has also given a lot of his time to help young football players by taking part in several minor football practices and the Boston Pizza High School Football Camp. "Patrick is a dedicated individual who gives his time to the community selflessly," says Eskimo President and CEO Rick LeLacheur. "He is a great role model for the people in the community and to his teammates."

Patrick's goodwill goes beyond the local community. Before the 2006 season, Kabongo traveled to tsunami-ravaged Sri Lanka on a mission where he helped with a mobile clinic and ran a sports camp for local children.

Chosen by his teammates, the David Boone Award is given to the player who has a strong involvement with the community. Kabongo will be presented with the award at the 45th Annual Edmonton Eskimo Dinner this evening. He is also the Eskimo nominee for the CFLPA's Tom Pate Memorial Award for a player's outstanding contributions to the league, his team and his community. The award is presented at the CFL Player Awards during Grey Cup week.
