Memphis, Tenn. - The St. Louis Cardinals, the Memphis Redbirds Baseball Foundation and Blues City Baseball announced Tuesday that they have signed a non-binding letter of intent to pursue a transaction by which the Cardinals would purchase the Memphis Redbirds franchise, its Triple-A affiliate, from the Memphis Redbirds Baseball Foundation.

"We are excited about the prospects of this opportunity to continue to provide quality professional baseball to Memphis and the Mid-South," said President of Baseball Operations for the Memphis Redbirds Dave Chase. "The vision that created AutoZone Park will continue to grow if the process with the Cardinals leads to a completed transaction."

The parties expect that it will take several weeks of negotiations to achieve a definitive agreement.
