FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals, proud members of IHL and Double A affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champ Detroit Redwings announced today the addition of three players to its roster. Forward Peter Ferraro has resigned for the 08-09 season and forwards Justin Styffe and Derek Pallardy have also been signed and added to the Training Camp Roster..
Ferraro, a native of Pleasantville, NY, joined the Generals late in the 07-08 season and was a very effective penalty killer and energy player. Ferraro had just one point during the regular season, but also scored a key goal during the 08 Turner Cup Playoffs.
"Peter Ferraro is the type of player every team needs to win a championship" said Head Coach Peter South. "He understands his role, he's a great guy in the room and his work ethic is second to none".
Ferraro spent part of the season in the ECHL with the Reading Royals and the Cincinnati Cyclones where in 11 games he had three goals and four penalty minutes. He later moved on to the Indiana Ice Miners of the MAHL where he earned 10 goals and 29 assists for 39 points and eight penalty minutes in 23 games. The 5-11, 180 pound forward played four years at Sacred Heart University in Division I NCAA where in 127 games he had 21 goals and 23 assists for 34 points and 28 penalty minutes.
The Generals have also signed forward Justin Styffe who spent the past three seasons playing for Mount Royal College in the Alberta College League. In three seasons with Mount Royal College, the Okanagan Falls, British Columbia native had 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points and 240 penalty minutes in 61 games. In 2004-05, Styffe played for the Calgary Canucks in the Alberta Junior Hockey League where in 46 games he had 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points and 183 penalty minutes.
Forward Derek Pallardy has also been added to the training camp roster. Pallardy spent four years at Merrimack College in Division I NCAA where he played games with former Generals Mike Alexiou, Jordan Fox and Brock Wilson. In 126 career games with the Warriors, Pallardy had 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points and 142 penalty minutes. The 5-10, 175 pound Chesterfield Ohio native spent three years with the Springfield Junior Blues in the North American Hockey League. In 109 games with the Junior Blues, he had 24 goals and 50 assists for 74 points and 60 penalty minutes.
"Both Styffe and Pallardy have put up some respectable numbers at their schools the previous few years" remarked South. "So we're anxious to see them during camp."
The signings of Peter Ferraro, Justin Styffe and Derek Pallardy brings the Flint Generals roster to 23 for the 2008-09 season.
