
Gwinnett Braves Announce 2009 Season Schedule

The Gwinnett Braves today announced the team's 2009 season schedule. The 2009 season is the team's first in Gwinnett County, previously playing 43 seasons in Richmond, VA. The Gwinnett Braves begin the season on April 9th with an eight game road trip in North Carolina where they face division rivals the Charlotte Knights and Durham Bulls. The first game at the new state-of-the-art ballpark in Gwinnett County will be on April 17th against the Norfolk Tides. The weekend series kicks off a homestand that runs through April 26th and features three games against Durham and four against Charlotte. Following the homestand, the Gwinnett Braves play a two game series in Norfolk before heading north to play four against the Pawtucket Red Sox.
The Gwinnett Braves are scheduled to play 144 regular-season contests in 152 days between April 9 and September 7. The 72-game home slate includes 10 contests in April, 16 in May, 16 in June, 15 in July, 12 in August and 3 in September. The longest homestand of the year, an even dozen, begins on July 20 and includes three four-game series against Norfolk, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and the Rochester Red Wings.
Per International League procedure, the Gwinnett Braves will face South Division clubs 64 times, North Division foes 48 times, and West Division opponents 32 times. Gwinnett's South Division opponents are the Charlotte Knights (Chicago-A), Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay) and Norfolk Tides (Baltimore). Teams in the North Division are the Buffalo Bisons (Cleveland), Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston), Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota), Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (New York-A) and the Syracuse Chiefs (Toronto). The West Division consists of the Columbus Clippers (Washington), Louisville Bats (Cincinnati), Indianapolis Indians (Pittsburgh) and Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit).
The three-day All-Star Break will take place July 13-15. The 2009 mid-season classic will be played at PGE Park in downtown Portland, Oregon.
