FORT MYERS, F.L. (August 31, 2008) - Tampa shortstop Luis Nunez and Mother Nature both put a damper on the Fort Myers Miracle 2008 Florida State League regular season finale on Sunday afternoon. Nunez lifted off with a grand slam in the top of the eighth inning while Mother Nature put a halt to the ballgame called after 8.5 innings due to rain at Hammond Stadium. The Yankees ended their '08 campaign with a 6-5 win over the Miracle.

Mitch Hilligoss led off the Tampa eighth with a double to left. After Tim Battle drew a walk and Matt Cusick was hit by a Jose Lugo pitch, Nunez cranked the money ball to left giving the Yankees the 6-5 lead. Play was then halted an inning later with heavy showers hitting the ballpark thanks to Hurricane Gustav.

Tampa scored their other two runs on the afternoon with a two-run double to left by Seth Fortenberry in the top of the first. The Miracle came back to put their five runs on the board over the next four frames, holding a three-run lead until Nunez's homer in the eighth.

In the Miracle first, Juan Portes led off with a base hit to right, stole second and later scored on Rene Tosoni's groundout to short. In a two-run third, RBI-single were collected by Portes and Wilson Ramos in the inning. Ramos ends the regular-season with a 15-game hit streak intact. The final pair of runs came an inning later for the Miracle on run-scoring singles picked up by Steve Singleton and Garrett Olson.

Ending the regular season with a 77-59 record, the Miracle now shift their focus to the Dunedin Blue Jays in the divisional round of the 2008 Florida State League playoffs to begin Tuesday night with game one in Dunedin. First pitch for game one is set for 7:00 p.m. and can be heard live on WMYR AM-1410 and WCNZ AM-1660 beginning at 6:45 p.m.
