Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, VA- Braves third-baseman Jon Gilmore was named to the Appy League All-Star Team by a panel of league media personnel on Friday, serving as the sole representative of the Danville squad.
Gilmore, a first-round supplemental selection in the 2007 Draft, leads his team with a .333 batting average and is second in the league with 81 hits- one hit behind Jonathan Waltenbury of Elizabethton, who has 82. He is first in the league with 22 doubles and leads Danville with 25 multi-hit games in 63 games played.
Throughout the 2008 season, Gilmore has been the most consistent and productive player on a Danville roster that has struggled down the stretch offensively. He has twice had 12 game hit streaks, setting a team-high. A shortstop at Iowa City High School (IA), Gilmore is still adapting himself to the move defensively to third base. He has a .897 fielding percentage and has made 14 errors in 58 games.
The Elizabethton Twins littered the All-Star Team list, filling eight selections-including Pitcher of the Year Dan Osterbrock; Reliever of the Year Mark Hamburger; Outfielders Evan Bigley and Angel Morales; DH Jonathan Waltenbury; and pitcher Brad Tippett. Johnson City's Curt Smith was named Player of the Year and Pulaski's Rob Mummau was voted as League Manager of the Year, as his team clinched the Eastern Division in just their first year as a Mariners affiliate.
Last year's Danville team- which had the winningest season in team history at 47-20, sent five to the All-Star Team- including Manager of the Year Paul Runge, Cole Miles, Cody Johnson, Nick Fellman and Jeff Locke.
