Eight JackHammers Heading to Winnipeg for The 2008 Northern League All-Star Game

JOLIET, IL- Eight Joliet JackHammers have been selected to the 2008 Northern League All-Star Game to be held Tuesday, July 8 at CanWest Park, the home of the Winnipeg Goldeyes, in Winnipeg, MB. Catcher Nick Prosise, 1B Freddie Thon, SS Nick McIntyre and OF Doc Brooks were selected as starters for the "Chicagoland All-Stars" in a game against the "I-29 All-Stars." OF Cory Harris, RHP Aaron Trolia, LHP David Moraga and RHP Tyler Meigs were selected as all-star reserves for the "Chicagoland All-Stars." RHP Nate Sevier was also selected as an all-star but will be unable to attend the game.

"This is really going to be something special," said JackHammers manager Wally Backman. "I'm proud of my guys for all their hard work in the first half."

Prosise makes his first all-star appearance of his professional career. At the time of his selection, he was hitting .254 with one home run and 21 RBIs. Thon is bating a career-best .338 with five home runs and 29 RBIs. He had a career-high eight RBI in the JackHammers game in Fargo-Moorhead on June 5. This is his second all-star appearance after he was selected as a reserve for the 2006 Midwest League All-Game while playing for Low A Clinton of the Rangers organization. Brooks is currently hitting .344 after flirting with .400 for much of the first half. This is his second all-star selection after being selected as a South Coast League All-Star with the South Georgia Peanuts in 2007. McIntyre came into action on Thursday with a .349 batting average, which puts him in sixth place in the Northern League.

Harris and Sevier were selected to the Northern League All-Star team in 2007. Moraga, Trolia, McIntyre and Meigs will be making their first all-star game appearances in 2008.

The "Chicagoland All-Stars" are comprised of players from the JackHammers, Schaumburg Flyers and Gary SouthShore RailCats and will be managed by Gary skipper Greg Taggert. The "I-29 All-Stars" will be made up of players from the Kansas City T-Bones, Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Winnipeg Goldeyes and will be managed by Winnipeg skipper Rick Forney.
